Why Go To A Pain Clinic?
A Pain Clinic aims to optimise the management and treatment of both chronic and acute pain. This includes treatment of pain associated with diseases such as cancer, back and neck pain, shingles, stroke, and other neuropathic pain, as well as HIV pain, facial pain and fibromyalgia. The medical profession acknowledges that pain is a disease. Pain management has not received the attention that it deserves in medical training and education This is not unique to South Africa and is a widely recognised international problem.
This Pain Clinic makes use of the advances in. drug therapy to optimise therapy for specific medical indications and conditions. There are now many more medications available to help patients. Technology too has improved, resulting in more choices for the treatment of both acute and chronic pain. The Pain Clinic is associated with other medical specialists including Radiologists, Neurologists, Spinal and Orthopaedic
surgeons, as well as Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and Physiotherapists
What Does This Pain Clinic Do?
The doctor will provide you with a variety of strategies to manage your pain. Accepted scientifically and evidence-based therapy will be discussed with each patient to determine which type of therapy is most appropriate for them.
