Lumbar Sympathetic and Stellate Ganglion Injections
A Lumbar Sympathetic block (for the lower extremities) and Stellate Ganglion block (for the upper extremities) are injections that deliver anaesthetic and other drugs directly around the sympathetic nerves (located to the sides of the spine) or the stellate ganglion. These blocks relieve the pain of CRPS, reduces swelling and increases circulation of the affected limb.
Both types of blocks are performed in the radiology suite using either fluoroscopy or a CT scan. This procedure is undertaken on an in-patient basis and does require hospitalisation.
